For over 150 years, The Emancipation Committee of Upson has proudly preserved one of the oldest traditions in Georgia —Upson County’s Emancipation Day Celebration.
Established in 1866, our committee continues to honor the legacy of May 29, 1865, when the news of freedom reached enslaved individuals in Upson County. This historic moment has become a symbol of perseverance, hope and community.
Today, we invite you to join us in continuing this remarkable legacy by supporting our efforts.
